JJ Abrams buried them in a time capsule to be opened after his death, along with the good ending to Fringe.

The retconning was pretty bad and I didn't care for the future wars stuff (it was a stretch even for a show built on superpowers and parallel universes) , but I'd say Fringe ranks above average in the finale department

I just kind of treat season 3 as the last one.

Although there’s a bit where Peter looks up at the moon breaking up and goes, “What did you idiots do?” And that’s got to be one of my favorite lines in TV.

JJ Abrams

He's really got a toe in everything, huh?

Don't quote me on this but I think only a pilot was made

Nah, they definitely filmed a first season with multiple more episodes.

I believe there are a few tiny tiny snippets of subsequent eps but very bite-size and unsatisfying

Yeah I actually did some research and I stand corrected!

I don't know how far they would have been able to pull the joke of 'satire of lazy sitcoms by using incredibly poor taste' for a full 8 eps but I wouldn't hold your breath for an official release.

They backed out of giving Hardwicke House a full release in DVD (the episode with Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson) at the last minute and that was entirely non controversial.

Ah, scheiße! Really hope whoever was entrusted with the cuts does the right thing and releases, if even only after they pass. The argument against releasing is so flimsy and ridiculous, and nobody has a problem with dark or black comedies anywhere or with anyone else.
