never gets old 😂.

didn't gajin explicitly state that they cant/wont use leaks of classified documents?

[–] Tar_alcaran@lemmy.world 80 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep, they have "treason is against the rules" rule, which lists all the big countries' laws against espionage.

Literally 1984

This one looks like it's not restricted in USA/Europe, but still technically export controlled, thus the removal. All the foreign states definitely already have it, but they removed it since it's technically restricted

What was it about this time?

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago

700-page manual for the Eurofighter Typhoon DA7

[–] Neato@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

Not surprising. At the very least could probably get sued for intellectual property violations.

I swear at this point they do this shit on purpose. Poorly implement vehicle models into the game, their suffering-oriented game design makes people mad enough to want the vehicles better represented, but they don't accept any other "secondary sources" so people resort to leaking classified documents.... It's too crazy not to think it's on purpose.

That's some 4D Level international espionage.

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It’s what real espionage looks like. There’s so many damn classes I have to take exactly about this kind of stuff because it’s so effective.

Espionage in movies: any scene from 007

Real espionage: lol bro check out this sweet game it's on this flashdrive I picked up outside.

[–] magikmw@lemm.ee 16 points 1 year ago

I mean, it's not that far out of the park.

I expect a truly horrible ingame version of the F22 and F35 to appear in a few patches.

[–] thepianistfroggollum@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That wasnt a classified document, though. Anyone can buy a copy.

[–] Khotetsu@lib.lgbt 4 points 1 year ago

Plenty of the "classified" documents aren't actually classified. Oftentimes it's a case like this, but I remember one person posted a link to the Wikipedia page for a WW2 tank to show how the in-game stats were nerfed compared to the actual vehicle, and they said they couldn't use data from classified documents.

[–] Metz@lemmy.world 61 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the DA.7 manuals are not classified. they are public buyable for everybody for 10€. so at most one could argue the poster is violating the copyright.

I also find the story of the ARMA developers who were arrested because they were photographing a military base in Greece to use in developing games.

[–] Tar_alcaran@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thats significantly dumber than this manual leaking though.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Be honest, no one expected the Greek army to be paying attention.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

They should have brought a giant hollow horse to the base gates and snuck a photographer inside

[–] Tar_alcaran@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Fair, but you're way more likely to get caught if you commit crimes in person, in broad daylight than from your mom's basement.

These War Thunder shenanigans will never stop being peak comedy for me

[–] JoYo@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 year ago

I like how y'all just believe something is classified.

also this post is ancient.

[–] zepheriths@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

Really? Again???? Mad enough to post a 700+ document, can't do a protest of the game. War thunder players are something else

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 22 points 1 year ago

what, noo, again?!

hahah seriously

[–] Limitless_screaming@kbin.social 17 points 1 year ago

PDF link or it didn't happen.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

Can Phasmaphobia fans leak what the government knows about ghosts? Asking for a friend.

[–] vale@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

Isn't the Typhoon DA.7 flight manual not classified? I thought they got it from a FoIA request

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

To learn new battle strategies and stay one step ahead of the enemy? Duh.

[–] vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 year ago

This is so funny.
