Is there a way to play pirated games on a ps4? What is the base OS for the console? Would it be easier to try to install Linux on it instead of trying to find pirated ps4 games?

You can jailbreak it and play homebrew games, aka pirated games and play game mods.

Thanks!

Is there any particularly good guide I should use, or just what I find on ddg?

I have found Modded Warfares videos quite helpful for jailbreaking.

Currently jailbreak is possible if you have firmware 9.0.0 and below, to my understanding. You can look up videos, but most people recommend text guides as they are easier to update and keep current. For PS4 it matters less since nothing has changed since the current jailbreak released.

The methods really depends on which firmware version you have. Some are permanent, some are not. The one I'm using now for 9.0.0 is basically just:

  1. Load up cached website with exploit
  2. Click go
  3. Insert a specially formatted usb stick
  4. Remove stick after it tells me At that point goldhen is installed and can run homebrew stuff.

Make sure you set up the internet connection to use a DNS which blocks the sony update servers.
