Does anyone actually like SxF?

I thought it started out with a great premise with all 3 family members having secrets to hide from each other with good reasons, but as the show went on, it completely dropped the premise in favor of wholesome family sitcom with standard spy stuff.

And I didn't find the comedy that fun.

It's probably the most accessible anime I openly recommend. It's well-animated,, strong visual identity, simple premise, unique setting for an anime, and an excellent adaptation of the comedy.

I emphasis the comedy and accessibility because, historically, anime has suffered from borderline cringey tropes/humour (fanservice, perverted humour, women sharing one personality, etc) which limits it's audience to a specific demo. SpyXFamily blends western aesthetics with clean humour all from the perspective of a realistic 5yo that sees the world wonderfully juxtaposed to an era of turmoil.

You may not love it but I feel confident recommending this as a gateway to other great slice of life animes (Like Skip & Loafer, Dungeon Meshi).

Yes. I do. I assumed it was always going to be a wholesome family sitcom. If the spy plot advances, the show is over.

There is some good stuff coming up. There is a hostage standoff, Loid's tragic backstory, and I thought the recent backstory of the school's teachers was very touching.

I enjoy the family stuff as much as the spy/assassin parts and I liked the movie as it had a good amount of both.

If you want something similar but more action focused, Sakamoto Days anime is starting next month. Perhaps check that out then.

Definitely wish it had more advancement in plot but it's still enjoyable. Plus my partner does a burlesque act as Yor.

Is the script basis written by the original author, is it corporate?
