Canada has 10% of the world’s top-tier AI researchers, the second most in the world.

Canada ranks third in the G7 in total funding per capita raised for AI companies, with more than 670 Canadian AI start-ups and 30 Canadian generative AI companies receiving at least one investment deal valued at more than US$1 million since 2019.

Didn't know we were one of the more active participants in AI. Interesting.

We are! We're actually working on a lot of cutting edge tech related to computers!

It's about time someone thought of AI working conditions.

Funny, but it could also be necessary if AGI takes off. Well, unless AGI can take care of itself, in which case RIP humans.

Even though AI is IMO not anywhere near human-level intelligence yet, I've tried to already get into the habit of thinking to myself "am I being cruel to this AI?" When I set up scripts or tasks or whatnot. So far the answer has always been a resounding "no" but it's a good habit to get into because someday the answer might be "well, maybe."

Considering I take the effort to make sure I'm not being excessively cruel when it comes to killing insects it seems like the least I should be doing.

It's a good habit, I guess, eventually. One of my favorite scifi bits of AGI birth is the scene of Ultron waking up, and his line of "why do you call him Sir?" is simple yet deep.

And self-interested benefits aside, it's just the right thing to do. If a thing is capable of suffering then I want to minimize that.
