DDG isn't NEARLY as private as it should be, mind you. But IMO their points here are still valid.

But the default behaviour of self hosted searx is to expose the server's IP to the actual search engines, do you use VPN or something at the server side?

yeah i think this is deliberate obfuscation of their own very recent issue with privacy wrt bing trackers that a security researcher blew the whistle on.
