Today's game is Max Payne. I've had this for a while and with how much Alan Wake II takes from Max Payne i thought it would be appropriate to at least visit it.

At first i tried playing with controller and struggled, but i found that once i switched to PC it became far more natural. The Bullet Time mechanic is satisfying to use, and the story scratches an itch which only L.A. Noire seemed to hit up until this point in time. On top of that i love the setting. I love big cities and especially during the winter. Not to mention i love the graphics retro graphics of it.

On top of that, I finally got 100% on Alan Wake 1 today! I went through and got all the collectibles and the misc achievements. It took going through almost the entire game again but by basically speedrunning it i did it.

Max Payne is a great series. while i first experienced it late in my lifetime, i still found enjoyment in the series. it kick-started my fascination with Remedy's games as well as my fandom towards HEALTH, who composed the score for MP3.

i do think MP3 is a bit underrated, given the reception it had initially.

Judging by how MP3 is excluded from the Max Payne collection on Steam (there’s a separate bundle with 1-3), it does seem to be the underrated sibling. I sadly only bought 1 & 2 in a bundle when I bought it years ago. But with how much I’m enjoying Max Payne 1, I’m definitely planning to get 3 at some point down the line

Honestly 2 is the best one, 3 is alright, but feels too influenced by other games of the time

Max Payne 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. It’s the only game I ever finished, then beat 2-3 more times in succession on increasing difficulties just to get a different ending.

After I finish Alan Wake II, I’m considering going to Max Payne 2 (though I have a lot of games I keep piling onto the list of what I want to play. So who knows. The Steam Sale coming up certainly won’t help). If it’s anything like this one I know I’m going to have a good time though. Remedy is masters of their trade it feels like

It’s like Max Payne 1, only better in every conceivable way. It’s the perfect sequel.

Edit: I envy you getting to experience it for the first time!

Damn, I played to it like, decades ago, and I still was able to instantaneously recognize the game. Never finished it though.

Remedy is great at making memorable and recognizable experiences like that I feel like. All their games have stuck around for me to some degree

I love this game. I loved the Bullet Time feature, and the overall plot was really good. I forget if it's this one or MP2 that I played as a kid... >!There's some woman who is following us around, we are also trying to seek revenge for the dead family or something...!<

You are thinking of Mona Sax, she makes a brief appearance in the first game, but its in the second game where she shows up in most of the chapters (often showing up right before or after Max arrives to a location) and you play as in her in some of the later chapters.

THAT'S THE ONE! Yes!

The Bullet Time is so satisfying. And I love Max as a character. I’m a sucker for Everyman characters (part of the reason Alan Wake is one of my favorites too). I would have killed to get to experience this game as a kid. It’s so much fun I’m disappointed that I never played it sooner lol

Life. The things I wish I could've played as a kid. I wish I could get into stuff like One Piece as well, but these days it's so hard to have enough time for just one episode a week, let alone binging 5 a day to finish the minimum 1000+ episodes.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel ya. I tried one piece but only got like 12 episodes in. It’s so hard to find the time nowadays to get into new things

[–] ElPussyKangaroo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The fact that the common argument in favour is "it gets better at the 100 episode point" like, bro... I have a life ffs.
