This is one of those thing where "I didn't think we had to prevent someone from doing this since we never thought someone would do this."

@thisismissem@hachyderm.io finding the most unusual bugs/things is one of my favorite things to read on Mastodon's github :D

Is it even a bug?

Just because someone assumes that reporting themselves is a bug doesn't make it a bug. I have been on forums where admins/mods would report themselves when they made mistakes for visibility that they were holding themselves to the same standards as the other users.

Yes, because modlogs on Mastodon are neither public nor federated (they are visible only for admin and mods). Self-reporting for "standards" don't make sense there.

I didn't say it was the only reason to do so, but that it is one possible reason.

What is the reason for having a restriction?

Who benefits from NOT being able to report yourself?

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Conversely, who is hindered by being able to report yourself?

Then you would report your post, not your profile

The Expected Behavior in the bug is that it doesn't make sense to report your own posts/account.

I've actually seen some forum software that did not hide the report button in the UI. :-) You didn't even have to post to the API. You could just fill out the report form and report yourself.

One use case for it is to remove a post that you are not allowed to remove yourself. Some forums don't let you edit or delete your own posts after 15 minutes, so you don't change what you originally said.

Working as designed. I should report myself for the things I've said.
