This was a pretty obvious inevitability given the size of the two conferences and them containing the majority of top teams. Hopefully if they do take over college football we get regional divisions again, USC vs Rutgers is absurd for a conference game.

Alliances, ha. It's be nice to get the SEC to 9 games like the rest of the country. Guaranteed playoff spots could be enough to let them remove a cupcake game.

It's a totally meaningless protest, but I wish the playoff committee would drop every sec team down a few ranks on cupcake week.

Ehh, an 8 game SEC schedule is still tougher than a 9 game B1G (for the most part anyway, looking at you mizzou). But I don't really disagree with you, there's just no incentive presently for the SEC to switch. Personally, I don't love the 9 game format as my understanding is any proposed format would have the Vols drop at least three of alabama, florida, kentucky, vandy, South Carolina and georgia annually, which won't make me happy. I know that SCar and UGA aren't rivals, but I love those games and I care far more about Saturdays in the fall than this silly little end of season tournament we've got now. What I would like to see with 8 games is a mandate of at least 2 P4 ooc games each year instead of just 1.
