Police and animal control officers used a crowbar to hit the snake on the head until it released its grip and slithered away before it could be captured.

I love the imagery this produces.

I cannot imagine not simply sawing its head off.

"Please let go! whack Stop it! whack Serious! whack"

Did no one have a 2" pocket knife? Not even a box cutter?!

Maybe they were worried it would actually crush her if they tried that.

In it's death throes? I had never considered that.

Yeah. I don't know enough about snakes to say, but I wonder.

Put a bit of rubbing alcohol/hand sanitizer on their snoot and they will back right off.

Yeah, the crowbar method did not seem thought out at all. I've handled a few snakes, the largest a friendly olive python, but you can feel that it will crush and kill you so fast if it wants. Should be escaping a snake like that by making it uncomfortable and wanting to leave, not whack it.

This trick really does work. The other day there was this big 'ol snake in my garden, I thought it was a rope at first. I complimented its boobs, asked if it had a boyfriend and if it wanted to come over to my mom's basement so we could have a date and talk about Arch Linux. This made the snake visibly uncomfortable so it pretended to answer its cell phone as it slithered away. No violence neccesary. Just make the snake uncomfortable until it doesn't want to be there then it will leave.

Every time I see an inexperienced programmer making the grave mistake of starting a big project in python, I show them this article to try to get them to change their mind. They never listen. Fools.

They must happen fairly often, since I've read of two women being killed, and this one invited 6, just in the last few months.
