Rough Roman Memes

A place to meme about the glorious ROMAN EMPIRE (and Roman Republic, and Roman Kingdom)! Byzantines tolerated! The HRE is not.

RULES:

  1. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, bigotry, etc. The past may be bigoted, but we are not.

  2. Memes must be Rome-related, not just the title. It can be about Rome, or using Roman aesthetics, or both, but the meme itself needs to have Roman themes.

  3. Follow Lemmy.world rules.

Not sure where to start on Roman history?

Just douse it in garum like a true son of Rome.

Still sounds better than the garum wine, or whatever the fuck Apicius was going to do with all those bird tongues.

Who doesn't like their wine with a little fermented fish tang to it?

Now, fetch the dormouse, we have dinner guests to impress!

Honestly I don't like wine to start with. Crucify me, I guess - although I suppose I've only had it the barbarian way (undiluted).

On your title, were Punic people known for a lot of food taboos? Given their common origin with Iudea I guess that would make sense.

Not to my knowledge, but the Romans stereotyped Punics as cowardly (amongst other vices, because Romans loved slander), so I took on the shame of Punic-ness for my lack of bravery 😔

I’m down, what’s the recipe?

Unfortunately, I made this meme a while ago and lost the book when I was moving. It was in "The Classical Cookbook: Revised Edition" though!

Thank you, I will see if I can find a copy!
