My recommendation: If you have the choice between both LCD models, go for 512gb over 64gb. The only difference is the internal storage (ok the more expensive one has some coating on the display, but this is minor). The 64gb model is really small and you would need to buy micro sd cards anyway. Plus its not the fast SSD, but a slower MMC storage type. The bigger 512gb model has enough space for lot of games and personal files, that you only need micro sd card if that's not enough for you. And its a very fast SSD type of storage as well. The price differences is extremely low in my opinion, go for 512gb model if you can.

Note: Also be aware this is the older LCD model, not the newer and more expensive OLED model. The OLED model has lot of improvements, not only the screen. Just telling this if you read this comment and are new to Steam Deck.

For $40 more I agree. I got the 64gb version when it came out and upgraded the SSD immediately. A 1tb 2230 SSD is $75.

At those price points, it would make no sense to get the 64... get the 512. Unless you already have alternate storage sitting around ready to install.

If you got the 64 with a 512 micro SD card, you'd be in for about the same money, give or take no more than $10. You may as well have the faster SSD instead.

Yeah I agree. The only reason to get the 64GB here is if you plan on install a 1TB SSD or something like that.

Hmm, for me it just says "This item is not available for purchase in your region", not sure I know that currency.

Lol, of course, right after I put my deck on eBay

I can’t believe they’re still selling those. OLED is so much better.

also so much more expensive. If you want a damn good machine for cheap, the LCD steamdeck is great

There are plenty of people who will be happy to get one for $300. When I was young, that would have been serious money for me.

[–] gray@pawb.social 17 points 2 months ago

Probably why they’re on sale.

Tbf, they sold the Steam Controller for a while, and eventually dropped the price to $5 just to clean out the rest of their stock- and that was the end of a product line instead of the older, cheaper version of a current product.

Alternatively, they may have realized that some people who want the Steam Deck but cannot afford it justify the OLED model as their first handheld PC would most likely go to a competitors' product instead, or write off handheld PCs as unattainable due to cost.

For my part, I was on the fence about the LCD model when it came out because I didn't think I'd have enough use case scenarios to justify the initial cost, and only after someone I know upgraded to the OLED and gifted me their old LCD model did I actually find out what I was missing out on. Now that I've had one for the better part of a year, I can say that the LCD model works for my needs.

If I had any complaints, it's that the touchpad is too low in its position and too square for me to comfortably use for FPS games, and the select & start buttons are placed in such a way that I have to reach my thumb over their respective analog sticks just to reach, which feels awkward sometimes; I feel that the touchpad and analog stick positions should've been swapped- though iirc the OLED has the same form factor, so it's not an issue exclusive to the LCD model. I'm also coming from the perspective of a Steam Controller fan, too, which to me is nearly perfect as a controller. (I only wish the left pad was just a dedicated d-pad, better analog emulation when using keyboard inputs, and as many back paddles as the Steam Deck.)

[–] machinaeZER0@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago

I was a bit surprised the touch pads were square as well!

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think these are just old stock they're selling off.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 6 points 2 months ago

Either that, or they got enough refurbished ones to sell. Either way, a great device either LCD or OLED.

Based on my pricing...

LCD Deck: starting at £262 ($344)

OLED Deck: starting at £479 ($630)

It's certainly better. But by enough to justify an 83% higher price? You may as well be saying why buy a MX-5/Miata when a Porsche Boxster 718 is better.

For me, yes, it’s enough. But I understand that may not be true for everyone.
