Holy cow. That is quite a read.
History Ruins
What is a ruin? We’re running off of “You know it when you see it” at the moment. Ruins should be non-functioning structures of some age, or their function reduced to tourism and the like.
Generally speaking, specific items from a ruin should go to !historyartifacts@lemmy.world
Illustrations of ruins (or their reconstructions) should go to !historyillustrations@lemmy.world
Photos of ruins back when they were functioning should go to !HistoryPorn@lemmy.world
I had family involved in all of that. On the union side, and there's still some of that family line that are furious about it.
Hell, there's a branch of us that had a more or less socialist upbringing because of it, though I wasn't part of that directly.
But yeah, I have family in Mingo county that take great pride in the history of it, almost to the point of silliness tbh.
Class warfare
I remember seeing the PBS documentary about the mine wars a few years ago. It is crazy the amount of control these companies had, and the lengths miners had to go through to break free from the system.
