Did Paul Sadler win? Did Barbara Ann Radnofsky? Did Gene Kelly? Did Richard W. Fisher? Those were the last four Democratic senatorial candidates prior to Beto. The closest any of them came was 16 points. Two of them lost by 30 plus. Beto lost by two and a half. The fact that you don't know any of their names kind of proves that this strategy of quiet campaigning doesn't work well.
Pretty much. We tried a campaign where the candidate visited every county and got on the blow horn. Let’s see how this more laid back approach works for a change.
You say for a change but Beto was the change this is a return to what it's been for the past 40 years. In a state whose biggest problem is voter turnout this is going to backfire. I've lived in Texas a very long time, apathetic Democrats are the norm. Usually they're beaten so badly people don't even remember them. Beto was a deeply flawed candidate, but he came closer to beating Ted Cruz than anyone ever has. And despite his flaws he did better against Abbott then the rest of the democratic field. Which ain't saying much but I think goes further to the point.
Alred's sole and only hope is that enough people are driven to the polls by a presidential election to vote for him. But considering it's Texas and most people don't feel it's in play anyway, including both the presidential candidates, I'm skeptical as to that working.
He did a lot better than Colin Allred though didn't he?
If he isn't caught on tape claiming he's gonna take our guns then he's got a shot.
Just stay away from the gun issues in general.
If you want to make safety an issue, focus on mental healthcare.
Democrats playing on the xenophobic tendencies of being "tough on the border" is such a bad strategy. Why would people vote for fascism-lite when they could vote for the original. Are they going to have a competition over how inhuman and dehumanizing they can be to migrants?
Nothing more reliable in the world than the Texas democratic party shooting themselves in the foot.
Colin Allred's team has been spending a lot of money on YouTube ads targeted to Texas IP addresses. I understand that he might not be campaigning in big venues but I am interested if focusing on internet ads would be more effective than going to rallies that most people can't attend or care to attend.
Even though he only has about 1000 followers on YouTube, in the last month his videos has over 16 million views. On TikTok and Instagram he has about 40,000 followers on each and he has been posting everyday.
Is this a focus on the non-voter rather than the political fan groups?
I'm really interested on how this will turn out and see if this campaign money is being directed in the right direction.
I went to a Beto rally and thought he was a tool. He reeks of saying anything to get elected, and the over-the-top enthusiasm his volunteers had was off-putting. I like Allred and have been telling my under-informed friends about him.
