Hibachi's a personal charcoal heater, sometimes used in times of strife (like war) to heat food too. It's kind of similar to a charcoal grill, or the Japanese version of that, which is called a Shichirin.
If people are thinking of a steel plate, that's Teppanyaki, cooked on a steel surface, or Teppan.
It's 2023 people, no reason to be ignorant about "foreign" countries anymore. Japanese is practically the world's official Asian language due to Anime and Manga, video games, etc. which is highly ironic given the aims of Imperial / Fascist Japan and the absolutely wrongheaded way they were going about it.
I bet you never miss a chance to correct people calling surimi sushi or pluralizing Japanese nouns and are also tons of fun at parties..
Sometimes using the colloquial term for something is about other people understanding without further explanation, not ignorance. You don't call velcro "hook and loop fastener" either, do you?

Doesn't matter if you're technically correct if no one knows what you're talking about. And that's really the purpose of language. To understand what the other is saying. Would be nice if people started using the proper term but we can't even get people to agree that vaccines are good, polluting is bad, or that 1x1=1 (thanks Terrance).
