"If the election is a referendum on Joe Biden’s policies and the failures that we’ve seen and we are presenting a positive vision for the future, we will win the presidency and we will have a chance to turn the country around," DeSantis said.

When has DeSantis presented anything positive? This culture-war asshat does nothing but send negativity in speeches and policy. Oh well…

At least now that he's more fully rejecting Trump they'll split the base and totally screw their election chances.

Trump base hates his guts. So since catering to them. Besides If he gets the nomination they will still vote for him he has R by his name all they truly care about.

Desantis is so far behind now that trump’s currently got the primary clinched. He can’t do any damage once that happens unless he runs third party, which is definitely not happening.

Oh no, we had mail-in voting that was proven to be safe and secure, allowed people to vote in a time of world-wide lockdowns, and still continues to allow voting by people who otherwise couldn't get to a polling place. How will we ever survive?

The fact that this talking point keeps coming up is just further proof that Republicans are absolutely terrified of everyone having the right to vote. That and their shenanigans of moving or removing polling centers on election day, but only in places where the wrong people might vote (you know, Democrats and/or POC), just goes to show like like any other fascist regime, Republicans can't actually win a fair election. And back to the topic of mail-in voting, lets not forget that the only attempts to rig those ballots were conducted by Republicans.

> "Whoever puts their hand on the Bible on Jan. 20 every four years is the winner," DeSantis told NBC News

Now this is interesting. It seems to imply DeSantis doesn't think democracy is the important factor and it doesn't matter how you get there, just that you're the one to be sworn in. It's a very "might makes right" kind of statement.

I could be reading to much into an off the cuff comment, but his entire job is making accurate comments. We also keep passing off the ridiculous sounding comments conservatives make, and then they come back later and prove that they were serious.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Ron DeSantis on Sunday rejected Donald Trump's claim that he was the true winner of the 2020 presidential election in his most forceful comments to date on the matter.

"Whoever puts their hand on the Bible on Jan. 20 every four years is the winner," DeSantis told NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns in his first broadcast network interview since he launched his presidential campaign.

Still, DeSantis made sure to point out in Sunday's interview that he saw a number of problems with the 2020 election, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s grants for election administration, the widespread availability of mail-in ballots, state laws that allow third parties to collect and return voters' ballots, and how social media outlets de-emphasized a story about the laptop of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.

But DeSantis also took aim at Trump, saying he set the stage for his own loss by signing the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill in response to the Covid-19 crisis.

"If the election is a referendum on Joe Biden’s policies and the failures that we’ve seen and we are presenting a positive vision for the future, we will win the presidency and we will have a chance to turn the country around," DeSantis said.

DeSantis also discussed the new Florida standards around teaching Black history to middle schoolers — particularly a widely criticized provision that children be instructed that enslaved people developed "skills" that could be used for their "personal benefit."

Personally I get a little bit annoyed when I ask a question but the other person doesn't actually answer the question. Of course I'm not a professional interviewer, interviewing a candidate for the effing Presidency of the effing USA. Thank you Mr. Burns for your persistence.

"But respectfully, you did not clearly answer that question," Burns said. "And if you can’t give a 'yes' or 'no' on whether or not he lost —"

"No, of course he lost," DeSantis said, adding, "Joe Biden’s the president."

and

And at a campaign stop in Iowa on Friday, DeSantis also strongly dismissed theories that the election was stolen, saying they "did not prove to be true." (https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/desantis-says-election-fraud-theories-promoted-trump-not-prove-true-rcna98221)

and

"They embraced lockdowns. They did the CARES Act, which funded mail-in ballots across the country."

Florida has long allowed anyone who wants to vote by mail to do so, including in the 2020 election. (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/democrats-scramble-reach-voters-florida-cancels-mail-ballot-requests-rcna91294)

"If, on the other hand, the election is not about Jan. 20, 2025, but Jan. 6, 2021, or what CLASSIFIED document(s) ~~was~~ were left by the toilet at Mar-a-Lago, if it’s a referendum on that, we are going to lose."

We as a country must assure that the GOP does not win, in fact, ever again.
