If you are looking for a more secure and safe trans space, we suggest you visit https://hexbear.net/c/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns. While we will try our best, lemmy.ml/c/transgender is far more open to the fediverse, and also to trolls. One of the site admins of lemmy.ml, nutomic, is also a transphobe, while hexbear is ran mostly by trans people and has a very active trans community.

just wondering if there's been any updates since nutomic's transphobic behaviour anyone can report on.

Nutomic is still a site admin, nothings been done. I fully suggest if you want a more safe and secure place for trans people to move to hexbear. They have a lot of very friendly and inclusive trans people there and are very active and have something like 50 trans mods/admins. You can browse their comms from lemmy.ml if you want to take a look at them

I would ban him from here but to do that he has to make a post so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. Lemmy.ml admin team is 100% a boys club and its why this instance is so bad. I personally use lemmy.ml to check on trans spaces across the fediverse, I feel like thats the only use case its good for.

yeah i've had my eye on hexbear for a while. if Lemmy weren't so resource intensive i'd run a personal instance myself, but looks like hexbear is probably where i'll end up (assuming they accept me :p)

Is there any chance that further advocacy would be entertained? I can't imagine nutomic being removed as admin any time soon ... but having his banning of beaver undone seems viable and perhaps a meaningful inroad with the rest of the admin team.

Doubt it, I messaged them about either possibility, crickets. Maybe if they had a trans person or simply someone that isn't a guy on the team it would be different. Right now I fully suggest swapping to hexbear if you want a safer space for trans people, but if you're fine with wading through bullshit, other places are fine I guess.

Beehaw is a safe space for trans folks :)

[โ€“] Blahaj_Blast@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I can also suggest lemmy.blahaj.zone has a lot of trans people too and I think skews somewhat less political than hexbear

[โ€“] marcie@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Ada refused to answer a simple direct question that I posed "Will you ban trans fascists/racists" and preferred to talk around it

As such blahaj.zone is not an inclusive space and is fundamentally only for white people of a liberal bent, the only place I can recommend as accepting and inclusive and has a large trans community is hexbear.

Also, to be frank, most of their community is /c/196. Trans people feel like a minority there.

'Apolitical' just means liberal and too accepting of transphobes, racists, and chasers and is a prime issue with this instance even.

[โ€“] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago

You might be able to ban them directly from https://phtn.app/

Nutomic is still a site admin, still banned ~~from this comm~~ on hexbear entirely, never mind. haven't heard anything new myself.

[โ€“] gruf@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

looking more and more like I'll be making an alt on another instance then... :p

Yeah, just a frustrating situation, running into communists who view trans people as bourgeois decadence is usually something I have to go home for.

The process of 'westernization' was what brought things like homophobia and transphobia to places under colonial occupation. The civil criminalization of gay people in England started as early as things like the buggery act of 1533, buggery comes from the french term bougre -

"sodomite," 1550s, earlier "heretic" (mid-14c.), from Medieval Latin Bulgarus "a Bulgarian" (see Bulgaria), so called from bigoted notions of the sex lives of Eastern Orthodox Christians or of the sect of heretics that was prominent there 11c. Compare Old French bougre "Bulgarian," also "heretic; sodomite."

The western imported 'values' were themselves rooted in xenophobia and bigotry against eastern orthodox heretics. (Bogomils)

Feel free, migration takes 2 clics

I was going to request hexbear admins to federate with sopuli.xyz, but it looks like sopuli.xyz blocks hexbear kitty-birthday-sad

[โ€“] marcie@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

A lot of instances have a thing against hexbear, which imo is just because cis white boys love to keep making shit up about trans people / cry when the trans people don't like transphobia and are mean to transphobes. Half of hexbear is trans.

[โ€“] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

Blahaj defederated hexbear, and they aren't really cis white boys

Interesting, thanks for sharing

All the whispering about brigading has seriously been about the dunk tank? They don't allow linking to federated instances and low traffic posts (and federated instances) are not allowed.

Calling them fascists is a joke though, like as an anarchist I've been subbed to most of their comms for close to a year now (other than dunk_tank which blocks .ml). I have not come across anyone even slightly fascist or supremacist- they even crack down on posting Yakub memes.

I've run into way sketchier/transphobic people on .world - post a contrary political opinion there and you get people going through your posts to find reasons to harrass you.

[โ€“] mathemachristian@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Wasn't it the other way around ? I remember hexbear defedding blahaj because some mod was defending chaser stuff and Ada defended them or something like that.

[โ€“] Diva@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yes lol, second line from the blahaj link:

Edit - Hexbear announced plans to deferedate from us.

From what I saw it was because of the behavior of the mods there, among other things (links in the link): https://hexbear.net/post/369410

Due to multiple factors, such as unaddressed ableist removals from the /c/196 moderators, defense of chasers, no-quarter rules regarding our users, leakage of good-faith DMs from our admin team, and a general lack of initiative to punish these behaviors, we have come to the conclusion that the 196 community on lemmy.blahaj.zone has made the fediverse an unsafe space for our queer, disabled, neurodivergent, non-western, and other marginalized comrades on this forum, and we will be defederating from lemmy.blahaj.zone until we can be confident that this will not continue to be an issue.

[โ€“] becausechemistry@lemm.ee -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I had a person there say I deserved to die, like a kulak, and then I got banned for not arguing in good faith. So. There are other reasons.

[โ€“] marcie@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

You defended biden's genocide so... not exactly a civil thing you did there. You led with being evil.
