I don't really see many benefits of this since it seems to take the same space as a normal laptop

Potentially privacy? Like only you can see your screen. But that's also a downside if you want to show someone something
You get a much bigger workspace. I'm not sure if those glasses have sufficient resolution yet, but moving your head to look at different windows is a lot more responsive than swiping between virtual desktops and fits better with how your brain handles information.
The ergonomics look great.
