I don't keep auto-sync on repositories turned on and use an rss feed from the fdroid subredd to follow updates to the repo.
I also know of https://monitor.f-droid.org/builds.

Are there any other methods or official feeds?

I use Droid-ify which auto updates the repos. I do follow their blog via rss. https://f-droid.org/feed.xml
