I've never understood the point of variable height desks; they always seemed over-engineered to me.
I suggest making a desk that's fixed at standing height and then just getting a stool-height chair to go with it.

Yeah, problem is that I don't know of any chairs that height that are comfortable to sit on for a working day. I know, reduce time sitting etc., but it's not so easy in my current situation and I have to be at the desk for 10h+ most days
Herman Miller and Steelcase make stool versions of their usual office chairs:
I don't know if I'd trust these as much with reclining and putting my feet up, but it's good to know these options are available.
Have you looked into hydraulic lifts, like used with hospital bed tables? Wherever you are in time, I am 4 months behind. please forgive my tardiness, I have a note from my mom.
