Fuck uncovered lighting. I want light, not a blinding light source. Cover that shit up.

It just needs to be warm lighting. Any cool color lightbulbs don’t belong inside a house (unless it’s a workbench or something)

They hate us because they ain't us.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 51 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Imma corner you in the store and try to talk to you.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 28 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'll just cry and make you uncomfortable until you go away

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 24 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The tears will come when I talk uncomfortably loud while just a little too close to you.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 20 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Please, this is too much. I need to lay down for a while.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 22 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I stole your weighted blanket. And your squid so you can't tell the world how you feel about that.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago (2 children)

That was just a decoy!! (It's a shark you were looking for)

[–] flicker@lemmy.world 18 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I feel like I just witnessed an unnegotiated BDSM scene in these comments.

I think the lighting in my house would trigger everyone here.

[–] GluWu@lemm.ee 29 points 5 months ago

This should be a bannable offense

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 18 points 5 months ago

Please go find a corner to sit in and think about what you have done.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago

especially if it spins with the fan

[–] Damage@feddit.it 14 points 5 months ago

For when you want to recreate the cozy feeling of getting flashbanged

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago (5 children)

Previous homeowner installed the fan and it has 3 candelabra sized sockets. Getting regular bulbs for it were far too dim. So I got these. And then the enclosure didn't fit so I said fuck it.

TBF, I mostly keeps the lights off in my house. I'm currently sitting in darkness on my computer.

Wait hold on is this something that bothers other ADHD people? How did they know this was an effective threat? Is this wildly known?

Is this why my parents would always turn the light on when I was in a room alone and I was sort of in trouble for forgetting my brother at the park?

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 40 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Yes, the neuotypicals use the light as a weapon against us, we must rise up and usher in a new era of comfortable semi-darknesss

My wife has finally learned that I'm ok with overhead lightning, but it can't be at 100% it actually makes my eyes hurt at max intensity. I'm also a ginger and recently learned we apparently tend to have sensitivities to light as well. I never stood a chance lol

Can someone explain, please?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 74 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

ND people are cave dwelling creatures that have evolved in the total absence of light. Turning on the ceiling light will blind and disorient the ND.

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 11 points 5 months ago

I'm not welcomed in the realms of the sun, besides everyone out there is a dick.

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 57 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Neurotypicals for some reason think the main light is ok to use.

[–] jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works 27 points 5 months ago (3 children)

There was an era in home building, decades ago, when overhead lighting in living rooms wasn't really a thing. They had table and floor lamps. That was good enough. Some fucker along the way thought he was being smart by adding an overhead light in the living room.

[–] flicker@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

We need to find him and exact revenge.

This is the correct answer.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 44 points 5 months ago (1 children)

A lot of ND folks have some specific sensory issue that overstimulates them, and overhead lights are a common visual one. (A common auditory one might be ambient noise like traffic, and a tactile one might be the feeling of certain fabrics on their skin).

[–] Caesium@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

ooh my tactile icks would be silk-y textures and microfiber cloth. In addition to soap and lotions so I try to be efficient with it before I can't stand the feeling

[–] holycrap@lemm.ee 26 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's very common for autistic people to feel uncomfortable in artificial overhead lighting. Natural light from windows, lamps, or no light at all is often preferred.

I have tape or marker covering all the blue lights that I can. So many small electronics have piercing blue LEDs and I just cannot deal. Bring back the old ruby red console lights please!

[–] Xanis@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago (3 children)

I will say though that new phones NEED to start including the LED indicator. I actually hate how I can't just glance at my phone and tell if I have a voicemail, text message, missed call, and/or email waiting. Now I have to pick the thing up, turn on the screen, look at what it is, and actively choose to ignore it.

It's a lot more work.

I cannot abide the light pointing straight down, we evolved architecture specifically so we could make the light be sideways or whichever other direction. If I wanted overhead lighting Id go out in the sun like an animal.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 22 points 5 months ago

Tell me you wanted a light fixture rapidly disassembled without saying so.

[–] RageAgainstTheRich@lemmy.world 20 points 5 months ago (3 children)

My partner sometimes likes to fuck with me by switching our light string from warm to blue white color and it makes me hiss like a cat.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I know they're terrible and gon for a good reason.... But.

I miss old school lights. I remember as a kid, around town in the winter. Pitch black at 6pm. -20f, absolutely still air. All you can hear is the hum of the sodium lights. Just the warmest red/orange light.

I'm probably just an old man reminiscing, but the world won't produce temperatures, light, or silence like that anymore. Now it's just the harshest led lights, a million beeps, and half heard music on shit ass speakers.

I like it. Sometimes I want to feel awake and see everything. Options are everything (especially between white and yellow).

Hey light is less a problem than midnight snacking.

[–] slurp@programming.dev 11 points 5 months ago

Fluorescent lighting 100%. Warm dimming LEDs behind a nice shade, on the other hand, can stay (preferably dimmed).

[–] x4740N@lemm.ee 10 points 5 months ago

For me I don't have issues with the lights themselves but some of them have flicker that I notice that no one else would that sometimes annoys the fuck out of me and stresses me out on some level and sometimes it happens on a subconscious level until I consciously notice it

For lights that don't have noticeable flicker I am fine with
