Here are two of my old kitties that I miss dearly.

That was 'Tig' a bengal. He was an arsehole but I respected that. probably noisiest little fucker i've ever met.

And that was 'Sheba' an abby. Probably the sweetest cat I've had. When I snored she'd sit on my chest staring down at me, I'd wake up and I think she was impressed by the noise. When I get another cat it'll be one of those.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Wow you sure pick the beautiful high energy breeds!

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 11 points 5 months ago (2 children)

The bengal was definitely harder..

Here's what a bengal come down looks like after a toof extraction at the kitty dentist:

I can’t deliver baby cat pics of the current pair, but here is last time I adopted a tiny one. Still miss him so much.

Green bag shenanigans instead of doing the housework.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Was he ever really going to do housework?

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago (5 children)

I could use him as a duster if he'd stop trying to mangle the tablecloth.

Toddler woke up screaming, woke the cat. While im settling the toddler cats giving me this look of death. I said sorry. He replied by going to claw the shit out of the armchair

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago

Kitty is likely ambivalent just hide car keys, title deeds.. shoes.. probably the knife block you'll be okay.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago

Kitty redirected well and did not claw the shit out of the direct source of annoyance. Good kitty.

I'm sorry man but that's a hilarious scene lol

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 11 points 5 months ago (2 children)

One last old kitty photo:

She (Sheba) was always so devved when it was silverside was not her thing. She would just stand there and silently protest.

She's so beautiful!

Works for me (I just upvoted this fine), but as @tone212_ said I did notice that the counter has moved (Firefox on desktop)

They’ve been moved on my view (using Safari browser). Now next to post timestamp.

ah crap.. I think I've picked myself up a sick while I was near other humans. That'll teach me to leave the apartment.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago

The sick is everywhere out there right now. Stay warm

Yep, last night I spooned some of the beef broth into a bowl, let it cool to a safe temperature and Melbcat eagerly drained it. It got the thumbs up. Seems it has to be homemade and very plain with nothing weird added.

I've had this low-priority to-do in the back of my head for years - "Learn Python". I've just never needed to get across it for any reason when there are other languages I'm more familiar with.

But now my oldest is leaning Python at school. First coding lessons stuff. They've got some Logo (the old turtle drawing basic scripting thingy that I learned in the 80's) module they load and then they're combining Python and Logo code to draw stuff. It's actually pretty fun. I find myself debugging his code though. Which is a problem when I don't know the language syntax.

Watching a complete novice approach a simple problem, I've really, really taken for granted how to think like a coder. No wonder people think nerds are from another planet. The problems coders face literally require you to think differently.

So anyway, I've started learning Python. I hope I find real uses for it beyond helping the kids with homework.

I started the day off with a walk and a hearty breakfast.

One load of washing has been hung. A leg of lamb has been pulled from the freezer to defrost. The sun is shining, the cat is purring on my lap, so far today is shaping up to be a very good day.

Ok I'm not having muesli for breakfast. I'm getting me some of that!

Moved as many of the plants as I physically could, and the little plant supplies cupboard that is a bitch to carry. Clothes are 90% dry and towels 50% dry and indoors now. The carport is still a disgusting mess and I'll leave that for another weekend when I'll also finally get around to installing my dashcam.

Now I need to:

  • vacuum the house a bit from tramping in and out with plants
  • get onions and potatoes and tuna from colesworth as I wasn't organised enough to do so from an independent grocer before today
  • bulk up remaining vegan "ragu" with lentils
  • make a lil pot pie with said leftovers and potato
  • make risoni pasta with green peas and Brussels sprouts and tuna
  • clean kitchen
  • shower
  • get ready for tomorrow

That'll do me, I think. OH AND I NEED TO TEST OUT MY CHILLI FERMENT. @Bottom_racer your thoughts pls.

chilli ferment. So this is what it looks like, the ziploc bag sealing off the ferment had some mould on the top side, I think I fished it out without any spores getting into the ferment. There wasn't heaps of brine but enough to barely cover the top of the chillos.

The liquid was a bit slimy... Should this be a worry? I scooped off the top layer of chilli bits and liquid and I tasted a bit, it's a little funky and salty and quite hawt but not exactly very sour.

Should I get a pH testing strip and check out the acidity before blitzing it tonight?

vomittingFucking hell. I couldn't put it off anymore. I threw up. In a train toilet.

I managed to make it to the toilet at least, and it mostly went into the toilet, but it's on my shirt, and my nose is absolutely fucked. I don't really know what to do, so I'm just hiding in the toilet

Edit (1 hour later):

spoilerIt happened again. This time everybody's back on the train. I did not make it to the toilet, although did make it to the toilet room

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (5 children)

Do you have some variety of tour guide/excursion leader? Please report ill. Hiding in the loo won’t help anything. Minimum you need fluids and somebody to collect you from destination.

First morning waking up at 7 instead of 8. Going to bring it down to 6 in a month or two. I normally suck at maintaining a sleep schedule, but this has been working.

All I did was keep my phone out of my bed and set my lamp to turn on a minute before my alarm goes off. I've gone from seven alarms that fail to wake me up because I turn them off in my sleep down to one that wakes me.

I think it's a good thing, having a set schedule, and I like waking up early enough that it's quiet outside still. So peaceful.

So fucking cold though

Hmm I don’t know what to have for dinner tonight.

Seems I may have lost my appetite today after having an argument with someone close to me this afternoon.

Need to keep my mind occupied and busy to stop dwelling on things.

The Whittlesea Public Gardens care a great spot with one of those miniature roadways for kids learning to ride their bikes. There's just one thing to keep in mind about the place:

It's located in Thomastown

Actually had some energy today, so I tackled some washing (including sheets and doona covers!) as well as doing a grocery order. Ran out of steam about 4.
Also, I get what y'all mean when you're talking about knives in the throat. πŸ˜–

The place is not the level of clean I like yet but much better. It's only the main kitchen bench (saving that until after dinner) and the bathroom (it will survive). I feel much calmer and under control.

But I have done a good declutter on my bedroom cupboards (should help to have spaces for things) and a big rearrange of my weird sunroom so the plants get their winter sun. Have split it up so I have a little spot to curl up and read, my mediation corner is neat and clean and I have a cleared a spot for the clotheshorse.

Le tired.

Also next medium-big purchase is a bean bag type thing for said reading nook. Any recommendations?

i got up late, made an elaborate breakfast, and i can't believe the sun is shining

i must go for a walk then

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

It looks so lovely out there but I'm still on rest. 😩

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

The motivation is non existent today. We begin our trek back to Melbourne, which will take 2 days. The train doesn't leave until 8, but breakfast is mandatory and starts at 6. I just want to go home and sleep. The cold isn't any better today, but it's not any worse, hopefully it stays that way

Edit: also I couldn't get to sleep until really late last night. My nose was really blocked and everytime I drifted off to sleep it felt like I couldn't breathe until I woke up

[–] wscholermann@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago (12 children)

Dear Boomers,

It's ok to have negative/empty space. You don't need to fill everything up with shit.

Empty space makes a statement in and of itself.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Fuck that I'm filling everthing with dim sims and I'm not boomer.

You will be excited to learn I invested in a bottle of hot honey, and it is an instant winner. I feel like all honey should come in this kind of squeezy bottle too.

Off to a good start with the housework I didn't do yesterday. And note to self: there's no use getting sad about needing a rest day. If I want to have my weekends full of fun activity I need to not work 12 hour days during the week and burn myself out. That debt must be paid.

[–] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

Mrs went to bed early and shut the door cause I was watching tv, this locked her cat out who was PISSED. How do I know? Once I let her in she chose to sleep on my legs. Mrs B’s gotta fuck up real bad for her cat to turn to me.
