Capybara Club (Local Resilience & Self-Reliance)

Capybara Club is a way for people to get together in community to figure out ways to increase local resilience & self-reliance.

This is a decentralized network of community groups where we can share knowledge, refine new ideas, and pool resources.

Food shortages, grid failures, supply-chain shutdowns; intellectually, we know these situations can happen, and most likely will happen with increasing frequency as the climate polycrisis accelerates. The way to overcome fear and overwhelm is action. Planning, learning necessary skills (and then teaching them to others!), setting up community systems: this is how we can take agency and adapt the environment and resources we have now to what we will face in the future.

We need to help ourselves and have each other’s backs, because we can’t count on those in power to save us.

As Josh Ellis explains in this tweet: "I picked capybaras because they are everyone's friend, live in a lot of different environments, and because I just like them."
