The Lemmy Devs said they'll fix it in the next milestone release (0.20) I think. In the meantime, someone else on another instance wrote a tool that can be deployed to an instance closer to LW which sends the activities in bulk to the main instance, but I think we're just going to wait until the patch gets pushed
