All I can say is I notice many F-Droid apps are a version or more behind project's .apk releases on GitHub :0

I'm a fan of NewPipe though.

Obtanium (also available on IzzyOnDroid) can be used to updatr an app directly from a GitHub link, or many other sources. Great for apps like Bromite with an out-of-date F-Droid release.
