Late night tweet from the official PlayStation X account confirms they will no longer force the linking of your PSN account to your PC copy of Helldivers 2.

People didn't care as much for some reason. They got a free cape and most were happy with that. You also weren't going to lose your Minecraft account for living in the wrong country 🤷‍♂️

Plus it let you play cross platform with everyone (not on java)

True, I guess there was more of an incentive to Microsoft accounts than just capes
