In my experience as an American, too many people do not know. They live in these extremely weird tightly controlled bubbles of reality. Utopianism is incredibly important, but so is recognizing dystopia. It's like communism without the anarchism, or anarchism without the communism. It's an ideological hole. We need both perspectives to build a healthier society. I think people will not feel moved to change and push for utopia if they do not understand why they must change.
