So I watched Quiet on Set.
It's a post modern series that does very little other than look at very few facts and talk to victims about their feelings.
No experts in the child acting business, child safety or law are talked to. No forensic psychiatrists are talked to about the kind of people these criminals are. No solutions are explored other than, "we should stop this. "
But there ARE experts out there who deal with looking after child safety, there are experts in law regarding child abuse , there are psychiatrists who deal with child abusers in court.
Over all this show was nothing but victim porn that gave no solutions. I doubt the makers of the show even understand how what they did is very little help.
And I'm sure the adults interviewed about their experiences thought they might be helping other people in the same situation.
But without solutions it's very little help at all. It's just more exploitation.
I give it 1 hobbit for dealing with the subject of male rape at all.
Studios like to tell talent there are hundreds of people lining up to take their job so they should be grateful for what they have.
They never seem to apply the same logic to the creepy people making middling TV shows that any writer could helm.
actors cost money, writers make money
maybe that's how the bad logic goes
It took less than 30 seconds looking up sag aftra on line, they have so much information on there about looking after child actors. Looked up a security expert, deBecker, he has information on protecting children.
They could have interviewed producers who work with children to get some perspective on what good people do.
How hard would it have been to interview these experts.
I admit, I am very angry for these people who were abused, even raped. Them and their whole families have been destroyed.
Here is how this is a modern show. The makers demonstrated how the abuse is enabled by the companies turning a blind eye as long as money is being made. By implication the solution is , "they should stop doing it" and morally they should
but old fashioned me ( and sag atfra, the actor's union ) know that you can't rely on arseholes to stop, that, yes it's not fair but saying not fair is not going to help anything. It's like crossing a road, cars shouldn't run us over but they still do. That's why we take care when crossing roads and we might use crossings. Saying cars shouldn't run us over doesn't help, it doesn't mean we can just walk out on the road. Abuse is the same. Taking care of ourselves is not victim blaming. Prevention is not victim blaming. It's accepting that abusers can't be relied on.
