Yeah they definitely could. My understanding though is that the amount of batteries they'd need would be quite high. I have a mate with quite a small yard (the block is about 20x30 m and house + carport is about 12x20 m + deck + a bunch of other non-mowing areas like planted gardens), and he's got two batteries. I think he told me he needs the second one to get through it all in one go, but I could be misremembering what he said.

If we were saying "you need to have 4 batteries so you can charge 3 while one is in use", that might work. If fast-charging (which degrades battery life) is required to get through the day, or you need to have 10+ batteries, I just don't think it's unreasonable to let them keep using what does work. Not while there are bigger targets to go after.
