General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Boris Johnson needs to stop weighing in on things. Dude is disgraced but somehow keeps forgeting it and making appearances anyway. The brass neck on him and Liz Truss is insane.

Not 100% convinced that nativist appeals to freedom are straight up racism but definitely a dog whistle and racists would lap that shit up.

WRT smoking - I was over in Denmark last weekend and it was neat to see that they still had certain bars where you could smoke indoors. Slightly too young to have experienced it in the UK but it was a glimpse back in time. Stayed for a few beers and my clothes were absolutely reeking afterwards lol.

It would have been nice if the UK could have made the smoking ban more of a de facto ban by introducing it as a special type of licensing. Just make it so much effort that the average bar would have no incentive to do it.

idk the nordic countries seem to get the balance right in terms of personal liberties a lot more often compared to the UK. I guess it is kind of offset by their collectivist culture (and massive natural asset wealth) so people are free but no one gets left behind.

That used to be standard. I remember waking up hungover overwhelmed by the smell of my clothes from the night before on my bedroom floor. And your hair!! You needed to wash that ASAP.

Funnily enough I never noticed it on the night really, only the next day.
