This is the first article I've read where they've referred to the fediverse as the "Threadiverse". Seems to imply Threads is a central part to the fediverse.

Nah, "threadiverse" is in use way before facebook. It's used to refer to lemmy+kbin

I think fediverse is used to refer to everything including Mastodon. The most people just rely on context.
