It really doesnt matter if its pointless or not. There is a familiarity with App-Store Apps, PWAs are a "new" concept for the vast majority of people. While they exist for a really long time now, almost nobody uses them.

It’s mainly the fees that both the google play store and Apple App Store charge, I’m not sure if the developer is willing to pay the fees. Also the dev would have to put the app in a wrapper which isn’t worth the effort and Lemmy isn’t mainstream so they wouldn’t be loosing any traffic or money
