I could really go a good hot Shepard's Pie right now.

Aldi have individual ones in the freezer. They are divine.

My homemade ones consist of beef mince with flavours and mash potato on top. No base. Just slapped in a pie dish and baked.

HEATHEN! A shepherd's pie is made from lamb. Beef makes cottage pie. Identical in almost every respect, but for the beast of origin. Mince is allowable nowadays, but for both sorts really should be (and in MY household still is) made with slices of leftover sunday roast and leftover roasted veg, all moistened with leftover gravy and the leftover roasted spuds roughly crushed to make the top. There is no dish better than that. Try it. I dare you.

I don't know why, but this is non-jokingly something that really irritates me. The clue is in the name, dammit!

But... Cows don't live in cottages ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 3 points 7 months ago

The people that eat them do.

I already know this but these days they are interchangeable.

Secondly. Leftovers? Next roast you make I'm popping over and I guarantee there will be no leftovers to put in your pie.

Ok, calculate how many veg & spuds you need to feed the male teenagers and selves, then double the quantity to cook with the roast. When the veg come out of the oven, put the extras in a separate pot with a sticky note with the skull and crossbones drawn on it, which is the signal that if said teenagers eat them, then there will be Blood For Breakfast. Their Blood. Works most of the time. The skull & crossbones sticky note is very effective, except for chocolate cake.

Ah I will grab some on the next shop!

Presently we have roast lamb and vegetable noodles leftovers to finish up before getting more food lol

Ingredients for shepherd's pie right there. Just add mashed spuds on top. Yes, include the noodles in the filling.

If they're in the freezer, they're hardly going to be hot, are they? Sheesh!

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 points 7 months ago

True but a quick zap in the microwave and then airfryer and all your wishes have come true.

I make vegetarian pie, with mushrooms and vegies in a garlic gravy, mash potato on top made with a little sour cream, butter and paprika on top
