Whatever you do, do NOT pirate this software

Talking about NX. I worked at a place that used UG and then NX. They had a specific supplier that could provide CAD data for their parts as native NX data. Things were fine for a while, but after a software update, designers started getting a weird error telling them to call a specific phone number. That number went to an anti-piracy department at Siemens. The data from the supplier was made with pirated software, and it was slowly infecting the parts database whenever it was used in an assembly.

As far as I know it didn't really do anything else, so they just started ignoring the "error".

Yeah, generally these folks are not messing around. PTC/DAE/Autodesk/Siemens are huge and will enforce their agreements. I think several Youtubers started getting calls from License reps about their use of Fusion or OnShape in their videos, and horror stories are not hard to find on the internet. I had a work friend who burned out very quickly working for our Software Audit division.
