Hej Sweden! I am an international student at Handels, and planning to hike/trek to Sweden’s tallest mountain - Kebnekaise. I plan to fly/take the train to Kiruna, get on the bus to Nikkaluokta, and then climb up.
Few questions:
- I am planning to do it in August, which I understand is one of the better months to hike up north. But there is a chance that I might need to push the date a bit as my friend may not get time off of work. In such a case, will this hike be doable in let’s say September - November?
- What is the best (cheap) way to travel from Stockholm to Kiruna? Trains are recommended (at least on the blogs I have been referring to) but I am on a tight budget so not sure whether it is the best way.
- Things that you think I should carry with me from Stockholm?
- If you have any other tips for 2 students on a tight budget, please feel free to share!
Thank you!

Trains are expensive, might be cheaper to fly (or rent a car).
It is technically possible to climb Kebnekaise in autumn/winter, but that is much more challenging, and not recommended unless you are experienced. Snow covers the trails, and the weather will not be nice. Requires a lot more preparation.

I see, thank you! So you’d say that I shouldn’t push it later than September?

September is a very good month to climb but after that it quickly turns cold and the climb hike will be hard for a beginner.

I understand, thanks!
