/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

Use a view guide. The first 2 seasons are a rough watch. I like this one.

+1 to this guide. I don't agree with all of their ratings (I liked some of the episodes they recommended skipping), but I used it when I started watching Star Trek and now I'm obsessed.

Thank you. I'll try out the shitters but I'm keeping this bookmarked just in case...

Going to second a viewing guide. There's like a thousand hours of Star Trek now, I don't blame anyone for not sitting through it all. Here is another I've used before https://old.reddit.com/r/DaystromInstitute/wiki/algernonguide_tng

I can’t say I agree with all of these - I’m glad I watched Angel One for… reasons…

That was the moment when I was like, “This Ryker guy is amazing. He gives no effs, just goes with it.”

Some my favorite guilty pleasures are the "bad episodes".

@RampantParanoia2365 @owen agreed, house of quark, body and soul, the ascent - not the best available but highly iconic

Thanks for this. I’m starting TNG right now, and I’m wondering about the eps my SO says are skippable, so this is helpful. Also, I’m on season 2 and the finale is a 0?! Wow, that’s surprising! Looks like it really picks up in season 3 tho, so excited!

[–] kellyaster@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

I'm not gonna spoil it, but you won't miss anything if you skip S02E22. That season "finale" is an unfortunate casualty of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike of 1988 and doesn't contribute anything of value to Trek lore. A zero rating is pretty harsh, though.

Oh yeah, TNG really finds its footing in season 3. You're gonna love it.
