It's still alive, it's just the tip of the tree that broke off. Old Tjikko is a clonal tree, so it just regrows itself over and over. It's the roots of the tree that are ancient.

The particular tree(the biggest trunk) is just a few hundred years. It is as previously stated the roots that are the oldest
