Good for them! What a horribly wasteful policy. I hope this gets enough media attention that they're forced to change it.

Given how ubiquitous this behavior is across multiple industries, I'm sure nothing will change. Grocery stores, cafes, retailers of all sorts regularly trash literal tons of product that could be donated, in the name of profit. There's often also lip service to food safety, but that's very rarely an actual legitimate reason.
