Lol the only country that beats us in metal bands per capita is Finland. The statistics are there so how can you not believe it?
If you ever want to come over here to experience it yourself, Stockholm is a terrible city for live rock/metal. Gorhenburg is better, and I highly recommend any of our many festivals.

Metal is never big except for a few bands on the biggest arenas. Sweden Rock and Gefle Metal festival are probably the biggest festivals but there are a lot of small more "extreme" gigs/festivals all over the country. I think that is a better measure than counting big bands/gigs. The metal scene is just continuing to grow, but as they don't get much promotion you need to do more research on your own.

Google Swedish Rock Festival. It's an annual huge rock festival. This years headliner was Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Deep Purple and Ghost
