It's from the original 1001 nights story.
Hmm I don’t think that’s right, it was added by a French writer later

Afaik the 1001 nights is a compilation and has posterior input from other writers.
However, as your link states, the story is originally coming from Syrian vocal heritage, and the French author acted as a transcriber.
I haven’t read these so I can’t speak to them, so unless you can please share some highlighted passages just saying something like this is kinda annoying because it’s misinformation at best and misattribution at worst
