"U.S. intelligence officials are planning to brief #Trump on national security matters if he secures the GOP nomination this summer — despite concerns about his handling of classified information.

The decision would be in keeping with a tradition that dates back to 1952, but it would mark the first time an admin has volunteered to share classified information with a candidate who is facing criminal charges on charges that he mishandled classified documents." https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/07/biden-intel-briefings-trump-00145651

@gigglehurtz @GottaLaff I was going to call it a "canary trap," but yeah, that's exactly what it is.

Leaving it until he's elected would both drastically reduce the time available for him to trip himself; and also make it damnably diffiicult to prosecute the same before innaug

@_@m.djw.li @gigglehurtz@fosstodon.org @GottaLaff@mastodon.social I came here to say this. It would be counterintelligence malpractice not to use Trump's briefings to set up a canary trap/barium meal test. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canary_trap
