i know this is a meme but it’s inaccurate. for example, the roman catholic church is widely pro life but generally anti death penalty.

this is not a defense of the institution which covered up known sex abuse cases. i just think it’s valuable to know your enemy.

I don't know how the Catholic church handles its hierarchy, but doctrine doesn't necessarily equal people calling for legislation. Under half of Catholics want to legislate abortion restrictions, compared to 77% of white evangelicals.

According to Guttmacher, 99% of Catholic women have used contraceptives. And I don't know if this is broken down per capita by religion, but...

  • 17% of abortion patients [self-]identified as mainline Protestant;
  • 13% as evangelical Protestant;
  • 24% as Catholic
