who knew a cracked back and a squished disc would be so debilitating

Me! The disc bit, at least. I have a disc issue in my lower back that flares up occasionally and it hurts so much when it happens. On bad days, I'm unable to get out of bed.

I fight it by being stupidly active, offsetting the fact that I sit at a desk 8 hours a day. But yeah, if I don't run for 5+ days in a row, my back starts hurting.
