1- Is it possible to search communities?

I mean as in typing the communities' names or the topic they're based around in a search bar. I don't seem to find it.

2- IS there a way to add Alt Text to profile pictures/avatars and banners?

No, but at https://piefed.social/communities it shows every community that PieFed knows about so you can use your browser's 'find in page' function (Ctrl + F, for a lot of people). Or, use the Topic dropdown to filter the list: https://piefed.social/communities?topic_id=11. I've tried to populate that list with all the popular communities but if what you're seeking isn't there you'll need to add it by filling in the form at https://piefed.social/community/add_remote.
Not currently. I'm doing a lot of accessibility work this week, maybe that'll get done today or this weekend.
