Because it's not. You have a lot of strict rules and profiles in professional aviation, a person that does not conform to these standards will not be considered at all. This does not means that race and gender have no effect in the hiring process, in the past two person with the same skillset, one man and other woman, the man would be chosen, this is the only thing that these companies are trying to switch.

Chosen*

choosed is the wrong conjugation for this particular case

Yeah assuming two people with the same skill set, you can choose on any basis you want without losing out on skill.

Trouble is, real life doesn’t have people with equal skill sets. In reality, one of them is more qualified than the other. One of them is the better candidate.

Yeah, and white men are not the best suitable for everything, this is exactly the point of all the discussion you are missing.

I’m sure you’ve heard of straw men before. The claim here is not, has never been, and you know it, that white men are always the best qualified.

The claim is that the best qualified is a dimension independent of sex or race, and that if you optimize on those dimensions, you deliberately step away from optimizing on the dimension of job qualification.

Lol, you are exactly the one that is fighting a strawman, no company has said and no one should start recruiting only because gender or race, you are implying it. What they are trying to do is exactly recruit without gender bias, and you, for some reason cannot accept this and keep fighting alone.

What has been stated, that I am responding to, is that a certain percentage of hires must be of certain demographics.

If you’d like I can source that for you. Would you like to see a source?

[–] angrymouse@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I would love to see the source. The only one I can find is a CEO saying they WANT 50% of the hires to be from certain demografics, and could not find anyone saying it must be no matter what.

[–] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

lol you don’t need the source then. That’s exactly the one I’m referring to.

If you’re saying this isn’t an actual policy, that’s correct. But it is a CEO expressing it publicly, which does carry weight. CEOs to control corporate policy, after all.

So if the corporate policy is targeted at something like “50% coming from X demographic”, it’s going to affect hiring and promoting behavior. And the problem I’m referring to exists.

It sounds like you’d want to make a point that a CEO saying such things isn’t connected with such things actually happening, and I don’t think that makes sense.
