I received a new GEM Bullet Point or Flying Wing today, and I was impatient to try it. Compared to the MMOC or even the Star 1912, this is a razor with much less blade feel. It is also less top heavy than the MMOC, and feels quite differently in the hand. It is also by far the prettiest GEM razor I have.

I don't get this impression of brutal efficiency I got used to with GEM razors. This is not necessarily bad, just unexpected - so you tell me that all DE razors are not like the R41?

Anyways, have a good night, and mazel tov for the server upgrade!

I agree with you about the Flying Wing. It has much less blade feel than the MMOC. As somebody who is used to straight razors, I need an adjustment period when I a razor like this. But, there's a blade in there and it will cut :)

I'm going to disagree with you and @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social about the efficiency.

I'm curious to hear what you think in 5 or so flights.

I'm my experience, this puppy has all the toast buttering efficiency one could ask for in a GEM, it's just more opinionated about the range of angles it lets you use than the MMOC and Clog-Pruf.

I have, in fact, referred to the Flying Wing as β€œmild”. For me, that refers to blade feel and not shaving efficiency. Perhaps that’s improper use of the term on my part. I can get BBS shaves from razors like the Feather AS-D2 and Blutt with the 0.86 plate by paying attention to the β€œopinion” (nice choice of term there} those razors express about blade angle. I favor the cap side while shaving so a β€œmild” razor for me is one where I feel the cap restricting the angle. Not a big deal.

That makes sense to me.

When you said "mild", I thought more of something like the Henson: tiny blade gap, no exposure, no way to hurt yourself even if you're drunk. I don't know the AS-D2, but the Blutt with the 0.86 goes in that direction, yes.

I appreciate razor engineering that contributes to, enhances, and responds to good shaving technique. I think the goal at Henson is to provide a device that works the same way whether you have technique or not. There's no joy in that IMHO.

The Flying Wing sounds like it's right up my alley.

Wanna try one?

I'd be happy to loan you one

Thanks for the offer! I'll try to find one state-side.
