We have been out of doughnuts since the last covid zero day

I remember those old doughnut days. Doughnuts as far as the eye could see. There were so many doughnuts it seemed inconceivable that they could ever run out. Of course there were a few who raised their voices to say that the doughnuts could not last forever, that if we did not change our ways the doughnut supply would dry up and disappear forever. Many people did not believe them, called them alarmist and refused to follow the measures put in place to preserve the doughnut supply.

And then one day the doughnuts ran out. At first people thought it must be just a temporary thing, that the doughnuts would soon be back. But as time moved on we came to realise there really were no more doughnuts, that we had to learn to adjust to this "new normal" of a doughnutless existance. For the most part I think we've adjusted fairly well, but every now and again a newcomer wanders in looking for these doughnuts they have heard about and all the memories come back.

I remember those days. They kept stacking up, a new one every day, then the next day, no more doughnuts and we'd have to start again.
