I started knitting specifically with this project in mind and was so happy once I was able to make it.

That does look fabulous! I saw you said this was the second sweater you made. Do you know off hand how many projects you made to get comfortable trying to make this one? Roughly how long it took you to get from starting? I've learned knitting a few times off and on, but never had a big project I actually wanted to do, and so always end up falling back out of it. This looks like something my wife would also love, but I'm not sure how long something like this would take or what I'd be getting myself into for something this large.

I always end up attracted to hats for myself, and then remember I can't really wear hats and give up before I even get started. My hair always either floats them off my head, or they make me overheat too easily. I had mostly figured I would just need to learn crotchet instead and then make some of those small plushie type things as desk decorations. I just have yet to make it as far as ever learning to crotchet.

Before I started on this sweater, I'd knit about 10-15 projects beforehand including some hats, headbands, cowls, and one really simple (short-sleeved) sweater. It took me about 6 weeks from start to finish but I had a lot of time each day to work on it. I also actually had learned to crochet before knitting and had crocheted several things.

They're both great crafts and there are a lot of nice tops you can make with just crochet if that's the craft you'd feel more comfortable learning first! There are a lot of great resources for learning both. I actually learned crochet from a book, but couldn't really grasp knitting from books, but was able to from videos.
