Is it a front loader because usually it's the seals that get manky.

Good idea will try a seal cleaning.

Leaving the door open is exactly what you are meant to do. But you should also leave the drawer open and give your seals a dry after you've finished with it for the day. I use and old tea towel.

Once a month get a sponge and soak it in vinegar or disinfected. Give the drum, seals, drawer and door a wipe over. Chuck the sponge in and run the machine for a hygiene wash. Dry it over when it's done.

Check any filters. They can also pong.
