the reason why they're doing this and the reason why it probably won't save the product line are the same: the only reason people were buying Amazon TV devices and smart displays was to side load apps

I was even trying to go one step further by rooting it and just use plain android tv since i only needed it for jellyfin but it didn't work lol.

You could just ... install Jellyfin

Yes I did that before but i wanted to get rid of amazons bloat and login constraint

Yeah, my parents went from Roku to Amazon to have the option of side loading. Good thing jellyfin is all I need.
